Matthew's surgery went wonderful. My mother and i took him into the surgery center at Banner Desert Hospital at 9am on Wednesday morning, the 25th. I checked him in and signed alot of papers. We then spent the next hour trying to keep Matthew from destroying the waiting area and finding anything to eat. Then a nurse came out and had me sign some more papers and go over some more things. It was funny because everytime a new person would come to me, they always asked the same question, what is Matthew here for. It must be some sort of legal thing, like i have to know what is going on. Funny.
Then the nurse brought us back to the pre-op area, she took his weight and height and temperature. Then I changed him into the cutest little toddler hospital gown ever!! So adoarble. We then had to wait in this little curtained off room. There were some toys on the walls and chairs and stuff. By this time, Matthew was both very hungry and very tired, not to mention mad at the fact that there was nothing that i would do about it. I felt bad. He was getting really cranky and crying a little bit.
Then Matthew's drs PA and anastiologist came in and talked to me and signed more papers. Then the nurse came and took him away and Mom and i went to the waiting room and waited for about 45 mins until Matthew's dr came out, Dr Argueso came out and told us that everything went well and i should be able to see him as soon as he is out of post op.
About ten minutes later the nurse brought us back into the post op area. We went into a little sitting room post op room thing and i could see Matthew being held by the PA as he was waking up. They were gonna wait to bring him out, but he was having a stressful time waking up, so they brought me back into the real post op area.
Matthew really really didnt like the IV and apparently it took them a long time to find a place to put it in. They poked him in every limb, poor guy. As he was waking up, he kept trying to tear it out, and not only that, he was having night terror type things as he was coming out of it.
i held him and kept trying to calm him down and get him to just lay in my arms. It was hard, he kept screaming and moving around and crying. It was pretty sad. He wouldnt take a binkie or a bottle or anything The PA said he was a fisty little thing and was very stubborn when they first took him into the OR. She was really nice and kept telling me that he was ok, its just coming out of the anestesia is hard and they dont know where they are, so very disorienting. Finally he calmed down and fell asleep in my arms for about 15 minutes before he woke up a little bit. He opened his eyes a tiny bit, saw the bottle and immediatly grabbed it and shoved it in his mouth, he was very hungry. : )
After waking up and the nurse checking his stats, they took out his IV, got him dressed and we got to go home. The rest of the day he was sleep and sore. I think that his IV spot hurt more then anything and his poor eyes looked like he had gotten in a fist fight. They were bruised from the tape that they use to tape them down. And all his limbs were bruised because of being poked everywhere.
The funniest thing was when we got to my moms house, he kept trying to walk but because he had an epidural like thing, his legs were all numb. He looked like the drunkest person i have ever seen. It was hard to keep him sitting down and not walking because moving is his favorite thing ever. Luckily he slept alot of the day and was pretty cuddly when we was awake.
We are so thankful that everything went well. His daddy gave him a blessing the night before and we are also grateful for the priesthood in our home. His stiches are healing nicely and the bruising and swelling is mostly gone. He now is dealing with strep throat, he just cant catch a break! : )
Pictures as soon as i get them off my parents computer....and they are way adorable. He was so cute in his little toddler hospital gown.
