Matthew's Surgery

On Wednesay, the 25th, Matthew is going to be having a little out patient surgery. When he was about 6 months old, i noticed that he seemed to be a little big in the little boy department. I thought that he already had some hormones that he shouldnt have until he went through puberty. Thankfully his doctor just said that it looked like hydrocele. She reffered him to a pediatric urulogist and he agreeded.

Matthew has what is called Hydrocele :

A hydrocele is a fluid-filled sac surrounding a testicle that results in swelling of the scrotum. Up to 10 percent of male infants have a hydrocele at birth, but most hydroceles disappear without treatment within the first year of life.

For baby boys, a hydrocele can develop in the womb. Normally, the testicles descend from the developing baby's abdominal cavity into the scrotum. A sac (processus vaginalis) accompanies each testicle, allowing fluid to surround the testicles.

In most cases, each sac closes and the fluid is absorbed. However, if the fluid remains after the sac closes, the condition is known as a noncommunicating hydrocele. Because the sac is closed, fluid can't flow back into the abdomen. Usually the fluid gets absorbed within a year.

In some cases, however, the sac remains open. With this condition, known as communicating hydrocele, the sac can change size or, if the scrotal sac is compressed, fluid can flow back into the abdomen.

Matthew has a communicating hydrocele on both sides and since it has not closed up in the first year, they have to go in and close up the holes and drain the liquid. If they dont do this, he could eventually get a hernia and other problems.

Its a little scary thinking of our little boy going into surgery and being put under. I know that he will be alright and its just a simple surgery but i would still like to ask for your prayers for him on Wednesday that everything goes as planned. Thank you in advance. Ill let you know how everything goes.
