This past weekend has been very interesting. It all started on sunday while i was trying to eat my ham and funeral potatoes. I got a sharp pain in my belly and i thought that it was just gonna be the normal stretching that i feel sometimes but i moved to the tv room in case it got worse, which it did, alot worse. The pain kept getting worse and there was a lot of pressure so i thought that when the pain died down if i went to the bathroom it might help. Well i made it to moms bathroom but almost fainted, so i crawled to the bedroom door and yelled for mom. Nicholas found me first and yelled for mom that i really did need her help. I ended up on the bed where dad told me to lay on my back and put some pillows under my feet.
For the next hour and a half i had significant cramping pain that went around my abdomen and around to my back, a complete all the way around pain. They would come around every ten minutes. It would start with pressure and then escalate to an extreme pain. Nicholas can atest to this because he sat next to me as i cried and i squeezed his fingers, they must have hurt alot. I called the doctor that was on call for my doctors office and he said to just keep hydrate and rest and i could take some tylenol if i wanted and if they continuted for another hour to go to the ER and get checked out. Meanwhile, Dad tried to get my to take some strong liquid medication, i forgot the name of it, but ya know its one of those where you wake up a couple hours later and dad says, so how long did you sleep? and once you answer he is like, yea that seems about right. I dont like those drugs so much, although they do knock you out nicely. : )
Well that was pretty much like the worse two hours of my life. And after that i kept having cramps on and off but not quite as painful. The next day, monday, i had a little bleeding, which scared me because of all the cramping i had had the day before. Mom suggested that i call my doctor and tell her what happened. which i did, well my nurse at least. she called me back, asked me a while bunch of questions and then said that she wanted me to go over to Labor and Delivery at Banner Gateway and get checked out.
So mom and i went over but because i am only 16 weeks they sent me to the ER. Well they checked me in, gave me a room and the wait begins. After a little bit a nurse and a PA come in and talk to me and then they start checking me out, checking for things like urinary track infection and making sure the cervix was closed. The nurse found the heartbeat on her little monitor thing and said it was 150 beats which was really good. That made me feel better. Everyone kept commenting on how i didnt even look pregnant, let alone 16 weeks. And i was like, yea i know. So they did all their tests and then i waited again............
Until they wheeled me to another room, i felt special, although at this point i was getting tired of waiting. A nurse came into the next room and took my blood and tried to give me an IV, which i flattly refused because i felt it wasnt necessary and the PA told me i could refuse it, so i did. Plus i really didnt want a needle in me, taking the blood was bad enough. Then i waited forever!!! finally the ultra sound lady came in to finish me off. Mom couldnt come with me to the ultrasound room cause they dont allow that, which i thought was sad. So the lady started doing her stuff and taking meausrments of the babys head and abdomen and femer bone and all this stuff. I was amazed. It actaully looks like a baby! Amazing! She showed me all the different parts as she measured and was like do you want to know what it is? I was like um yea but i didnt think you could tell this early, and she was like oh you can at 16 weeks. So she got a good shot of between the legs and said see, its a BOY! Then she gave me a little anatomy lesson which i was like ok, i can see it but thanks for that anyway. ha ha.
After i was wheeled back into my room i told mom i knew what it was but i had to call nick first, so i called him and told him it was a boy and that everything was fine and that i was just waiting to be discharged. nicholas was super excited! He said he immediatly started calling everyone.
I told mom and she was excited, although we both kind of already knew that it was gonna be a boy, thanks to Tama, my nephew.
Amy called my mom right before we went into the ER, so my mom told her where we were. Then she called us again about fifteen minutes later and said that Tama and her had had a little prayer for me and the baby. And after the prayer, Tama said, " Mom, amber and her baby boy are going to be just fine." When i heard this i knew it was boy.
Well after the ultra sound was done, we waited and waited and waited and waited. To make a long story short, they wouldnt give me any food, so i puked three times and finally the PA came in and gave me the clear to go home. Finally. This was at 845pm and we had been there since 345pm. So much fun.
It was good to know that everything was going well with the baby and me. It was crazy to find out so early that we are going to have a little boy. I didnt think that i would know for another month or so. Crazyness!!!!!!!!!
We have a name that we both like, but to quote to Nicholas " we are not naming him until he is born". The name we like is Matthew Edmund. Although we are still looking at other names. : ) So when there is more to know, ill let you know. And when i actually start to look like a pregnant lady, ill post a picture. Literally, just imagine me as i have always looked. sad day.
